New Technology High School students in Pinckney Community Schools will have two unique pieces of technology to utilize next school year.Within the next two months, the district will have installed a 1-kilowatt wind turbine and a series of five connected solar panels — which together will also produce approximately 1 kilowatt of power — on the high school’s roof.According to high school teacher Joel Craig, who initiated the grant process, the renewable-energy technology will serve two purposes.It will serve as an educational tool for the school’s project-based geodesign and physics courses as well as a power producer.Power produced from the turbine and solar panels will feed back into the power grid and earn the school energy credits from DTE Energy.
